Origins of the New Life Movement

The New Life Church started in Kaikoura when in 1973 a pastor came up to help a small group of people meeting in homes. New Life is a group of churches found throughout New Zealand, from Invercargill to Kaitaia, that sprang from a spiritual revival that gained momentum from the early ‘60’s.

New Life churches have an emphasis on each person developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The New Life movement has a strong missions thrust, reaching several nations around the world. At this stage the New Life churches in India alone outnumber those within New Zealand.

New Life churches are self-governing or autonomous and operate by networks of relationship rather than a central governing body.

We seek to strengthen families, believing they are the basic building blocks of our society, by working to strengthen marriages, develop parenting skills, and mentor youth. We encourage our church family to serve the needs of our community, spiritually and physically, alongside the other Christian churches.
